Mariners vs Jets: Player Ratings

Mitchell Duke popped up with a late winner to seal a 1-0 win for Central Coast Mariners against Newcastle Jets in the F3 derby on Saturday. Griffin McMaster gives us his player ratings from both sides.

Central Coast Mariners

Liam Reddy: Spilled a couple of balls. Made a good save low to his right in the second half. Definitely the busier of the two keepers - 7

Eddy Bosnar: He was definitely busy. Did well considering Newcastle were the better side - 7

Zac Anderson: Always a prescene. Is getting better at his role. Can see him becoming captain of the club in the future - 7

Josh Rose: Had a golden opportunity to provide an assist after making a great run but hit the pass too hard. Took the gloss off an ok performance - 7

Storm Roux: Had a sound game. Busy down the right hand side. Always consistent - 7

Kim Seung-yong: Played 60 minutes. Play-maker who failed to create anything impressive for the Mariners - 5

Mitchell Duke: Always speedy and works hard, is very aggressive and he breaks through packs well and gets dangerous balls into the area. Scored the winning goal. Class - 8

Matthew Sim: Busy in midfield however lacks the finishing product. Missed a couple of good opportunities - 6

Nick Montgomery: He was busy. Was under constant pressure from Newcastle’s attack. Did ok - 7

John Hutchinson: Had 1 shot that went just wide of the post. Did ok - 7

Malick Mane: Busy up front but plays more on the left side. Is speedy and he got some encouraging balls into the area - 7

Nick Fitzgerald: Came on after 67 minutes. Did ok - 6

Glen Trifiro: Came on as a sub. Busy without surprising - 6

Isaka Cernak: Came on as a right back. Didn’t have a lot to do - 6

Newcastle Jets

Mark Birighitti: Had a very quiet game. The goal was not his fault - 6

David Carney: Got some threatening crosses into the box however no-one could get on the end of one - 7

Sam Gallagher: Played well. Has been consistent and will see more action this season - 7

Kew Jaliens: Solid and stuck to his task and is a big key for Newcastle this season - 7

Scott Neville: Had a good game. Just unfortunate they conceded at the end. Was not at fault for the goal - 7

Taylor Regan: Maybe a slight push on him for the Duke goal however he did not do enough to contain him. Other than that he did not have too much of a bad match - 6.5

Jacob Pepper: Played well. Slid plenty of balls into the attacking third. Was an encouraging positive for the Jets - 7.5

Joel Griffiths: Played 67 minutes. Looked their most dangerous outlet. Surprised he got subbed so early. Was not overly busy but has that threat. Need to see more of him - 6.5

Jonathon Steele: Did ok. Tackled hard and worked like a mad dog - 6

James Virgili: Played 60 odd minutes. Got into a few good positions but lacks the final ball - 5

Edson Montano: Worked ok. May need a little bit of time to adapt to new surroundings - 6

Marco Flores: Came on as a sub. On a couple of occasions he should have played the simple option instead giving the ball away. Seems he’s still coming back from long term injuries, hopefully we see better from him in the future - 6

Jeronimo Neumann: Came on after 77 minutes. Took a little time to get into the game for his new club. Will see better from him in future matches - 6

Andrew Hoole: Came on after 68 minutes. Made 11 passes and did ok. Got a good cross in - 6
