Iain Ramsay and Kofi Danning have been given an opportunity to extend their A-League careers with a week-long trial at Newcastle Jets.
Former Melbourne City midfielder Ramsay, 27, and Brisbane Roar attacker Danning, 24, hit the pitch on Monday hoping to seal one of eight remaining positions.
The club has a massive rebuild ahead of it after the player roster was decimated under previous owner Nathan Tinkler’s watch.
‘‘They’re here for the week and we’re reviewing them,’’ new coach Scott Miller told the Newcastle Herald.
‘‘They’re on a trial basis and we’re getting an understanding of where they’re at.
‘‘I think at this point we need to be open in regards to trialists.’’
Both players launched their senior A-League careers at Sydney FC but Danning in particular has struggled for regular game time.
On the subject of more trialists Miller added: ‘‘That is still under review. We’re probably looking at more definite signings as opposed to trialists at this point.’’
One player who won’t be making a return to Hunter Stadium is 23-year-old former Jets winger, James Virgili, one of those cut in April.
On Monday, Miller told the Newcastle Herald that Virgili was ‘‘not a name I’ve considered’’.comments
