With their Asian Cup triumph still fresh in the memory, goal-scoring hero James Troisi says the Socceroos believes they can beat any nation in the world, starting with Germany on Thursday (AEDT).
Troisi, who scored the final’s winning goal in extra-time in the 2-1 win over Korea Republic, admits confidence is high and feels this young Australian group are only going to get stronger.

“There’s no reason why not – we go into every match trying to win the game,” Troisi told FFA TV.
“Knowing the boss (Ange Postecoglou) we’re going to want to play our style of football. We’ll respect the opposition but go out to win the game.
“We definitely feel confident. (Winning the Asian cup) was a massive step for us, not just because we won but we’re playing some really good football and have got some good players coming through and we’re really bonding as a team.
“We’re going to be positive. It’s going to be difficult, no doubt about it, but we want to test it with the biggest in the world now.”
This is the first time the Socceroos have got together again since their Asian Cup win and Troisi says being back amongst the group has invoked some wonderful memories.
“That’s the great thing about what we’ve created, that’s never going to be taken away from us,” the Zulte Waregem attacker said.
“Slowly, slowly it’s starting to sink in. I think it’s going to take its time and that’s the good thing about history and what we’ve created.
“In years to come we’ll still be watching these highlights and you can’t take the smile off your face.”
While Germany’s form since their World Cup win in Brazil last year has been patchy, any side with names like Marco Reus, Thomas Muller, Mario Gotze, Toni Kroos and Mesut Ozil is always a dangerous prospect.
“All of them are playing at the highest level and are some of the best players in the world,” Troisi said of the Germany challenge.
“It’s going to be difficult but we’re looking forward it. We don’t have a lot of time to work together but that’s the way it is this window and we’ll prepare as quickly and good as we can.comments
