Borussia Dortmund have left it too late to mount their own Bundesliga title challenge, but they can derail Bayern Munich’s bid to retain the trophy when they travel to the Allianz Arena on Saturday for Der Klassiker.
Bayern suffered a slight dip in form after their return from winning the Club World Cup as they picked up one point from two league games, but they've since returned to form with thumping wins over Lazio and Koln.
Hansi Flick’s side held a two-point lead over their closest rivals RB Leipzig ahead of the weekend and will be determined not to surrender that advantage when they face a revitalised Dortmund side.
It has been a disappointing campaign for the men in yellow and black, but interim boss Edin Terzic has overseen a good run of form lately that has put them firmly back into the top four race.
Dortmund have won four games in a row in all competitions, and their 3-0 victory over Arminia Bielefeld last weekend left them fifth, three points outside the Champions League places.
Bayern’s injury list includes Corentin Tolisso, Douglas Costa, Alexander Nubel and Tanguy Nianzou, but Benjamin Pavard has returned to fitness.
The visitors will be without Manuel Akanji, Axel Witsel and Marcel Schmelzer for the trip to Bavaria.
