Bournemouth will be looking to bounce back from their midweek defeat by Brentford when they take on Stoke on Saturday.
The Cherries have stuttered a little of late, dropping points in goalless draws with Swansea and Luton, but Wednesday’s loss was their first in six games. Jason Tindall’s men have slipped to fourth place in the table as a result, although they do have a game in hand on all three of the teams above them after their Boxing Day clash with Millwall was postponed.
No team in the division has scored more goals than Bournemouth so far this season, while their defensive record is also among the best in the second tier. Tindall will now be keen to see his side respond at the Bet365 Stadium, a ground on which they have won their last two visits.
Stoke extended their unbeaten run to five games last time out, as they drew 1-1 with Nottingham Forest on home turf. Four of their last five matches have ended with the scores level, and Michael O’Neill will want to see his team return to winning ways as soon as possible.
Nevertheless, Stoke have become a much more solid side in recent weeks, having lost only one of their last nine games and keeping clean sheets in three of their last five. Stoke have struggled for goals at times, but the seventh-placed Potters now look well positioned to mount a push for the play-offs.
Bournemouth will have to make do without Jack Stacey, who is at least another two weeks away from returning from a knee injury. Josh King is expected to depart in the January transfer window and might not be involved here.
Stoke will be unable to call upon the services of Morgan Fox, Tyrese Campbell, Niki Maenpaa, Angus Gunn, Adam Davies and Lee Gregory.
