Aussies abroad weekend wrap

Asia was again the centre of the Aussies Abroad action this week, as Tim Cahill found himself on the scoresheet again amid speculation surrounding his future at Shanghai Shenhua. 

Robbie Cornthwaite scored two goals in two games this week in Malaysia, while Goran Subara scored a 120th-minute equaliser to help see Police United through to the next round of the FA Cup in Thailand. Elsewhere, Aaron Schneebeli and Daniel Deblaere set up goals as their sides both won in the USA, while Bernie Ibini made his debut for Club Brugge in a 10-0 (that’s right!) friendly win in Belgium.

UK

In the Irish Premier Division, Mark Griffin was missing due to injury as Bohemian FC lost 1-0 at home to Drogheda United.

In the Irish First Division, Dylan Mernagh was an unused substitute for Waterford United as they lost 1-0 at home to Athlone Town.

EUROPE

In the Division Two Sodra Gotaland in Sweden, Kliment Taseski played a full match as FC Rosengard won 3-0 away to IFK Berga.

In the One Deild Karla in Iceland, Kile Kennedy played a full match as KF Fjardabyggd lost 2-1 away to Trottur Reykjavik.

In the One Lyga in Lithuania, Evan Alexandrow-Ridley was missing due to injury for both matches this week as FC Dziugas first lost 1-0 away to FM Auska before winning 2-1 at home to FK Silute.

In the 3. Divisjon Avdeling One in Norway, Saka was an unused substitute for Nesodden IF as they lost 4-3 at Grorud II.

ASIA

In the Chinese Super League, Tim Cahill played a full match as Shanghai Shenhua drew 1-1 away to Shanghai Shenxin. Adrian Leijer also played a full match as Chongqing Lifan lost 2-0 away to Beijing Guoan. Josh Mitchell was not in the squad as Liaoning Hongyun won 2-1 at home to Guizhou Renhe. In matches played earlier in the week, Cahill played a full match and scored his side’s first goal as Shenhua lost 3-2 at Jiangsu Guoxin Shuntian. Leijer also played a full match as Chongqing won 3-0 away to Tianjin Taida. Mitchell was again not in the squad as Liaoning lost 3-1 at home to Shanghai Dongya.

In the China League One, Jonas Salley played a full match as Nei Mongol Zhongyou lost 2-0 at home to Beijing FC. Adam Hughes was in the starting XI for Ha’erbin Yiteng as they won 1-0 at home to Hunan Xiangtao.

In the Japanese J-League Division One, Mitchell Duke was not in the squad for Shimizu S-Pulse as they lost 3-2 at FC Tokyo.

In the J-League Division Two in Japan, Mitch Nichols was not in the squad for Cerezo Osaka as they won 3-0 at Tochigi SC.

In the K-League in Korea, Alex Wilkinson played until the 77th minute as Jeonbuk FC came back from 2-0 down to secure a 2-2 home draw with Jeonnam Dragons. Aleksandar Jovanovic was not in the squad for Jeju United as they won 3-1 away to Busan I’Park.

In the round of 16 in the Korean FA Cup, Jovanovic played a full match as Jeju won 2-1 away to Daejeon Korail. Alex Wilkinson also played a full match Jeonbuk FC lost 2-1 at Pohang Steelers.

In the Thai Premier League, Matt Smith played a full match for Bangkok Glass as they lost 1-0 away to Osotspa FC. Michael Cvetkovski also played a full match as Siam Navy FC lost 2-1 at home to Chiangrai United. Brent McGrath was another to play a full match as Port FC lost 1-0 away to Army United.

In the Division One League in Thailand, Goran Subara played a full match as Police United thrashed Phuket FC 5-0.

In the Thai Division Two League North Eastern Region, Adriano Pellegrino was missing due to suspension (yellow cards) as Udon Thani FC won 1-0 away to Mahasarakham United.

In the second round of the FA Cup in Thailand, Aaron Evans played a full match and converted his penalty in the shoot-out as Kamphaeng Phet FC won 3-1 on penalties over Nong Bua Pitchaya after the match had finished tied 1-1 after 90 minutes and extra time. Goran Subara played a full match and scored the final goal of the game as Police United won 4-1 on penalties over BEC Tero Sasana after the match had finished 0-0 after 90 minutes and 2-2 after extra time. Matt Smith also played a full match as Bangkok Glass won 2-0 away to Samut Prakan FC. Brent McGrath was an unused substitute (rested) as Port FC won 3-1 at home to BBCU FC.

Ndumba Makeche played a full match as Felda United won 2-0 at Sarawak FA, for whom Ryan Griffiths also played a full match. In matches played earlier in the week, Griffiths played a full match as Sarawak lost 3-1 away to Perak FA. Cornthwaite played a full match and scored the only goal of the game as Selangor won 1-0 at home to Felda United, for whom Makeche also played a full match. Jon McKain played until half-time for Kelantan FA as they came back to secure a 1-1 draw away to Sime Darby. Mario Karlovic came on in the 46th minute as ATM FA also came back to secure a 1-1 draw, at home to Singapore Lions XII.

In the Malaysian Premier League, Joel Chianese played a full match for Sabah FA as they won 1-0 at home to Kuala Lumpur FA. Cameron Edwards also played a full match as Putrajaya SPA FC lost 2-1 at home to Kedah FA. In matches played earlier in the week, Chianese again played a full match as Sabah drew 2-2 with NS Matrix. Edwards also played a full match as Putrajaya lost 4-1 away to Penang FA.

In the UFL Division One in the Philippines, Tahj Minniecon played until the 68th minute as Loyola Meralco Sparks lost 3-2 at Kaya FC. In a match played earlier in the week, Minniecon was not in the squad as Loyola won 4-0 away to Team Socceroo.

In the League Cup in Singapore, Srecko Mitrovic was not in the squad for Tampines Rovers as they played to a 2-2 with Balestier Khalsa.

In the Argentinean Cuarta, Gavin de Niese played a full match for CA River Plate as they won 3-0 at home to Velez Sarsfield. In a match played earlier in the week, de Niese played until the 75th minute as River won 1-0 away to CA All Boys.

In Major League Soccer in the United States, Andy Rose was an unused substitute for Seattle Sounders as they lost 1-0 away to Philadelphia Union.

In the National Premier Soccer League in the USA, Daniel Deblaere played a full match and set up his side’s goal as FC Indiana drew 1-1 with Cincinnati Saints. In another match, Deblaere was missing due to injury as Indiana lost 5-2 at Michigan Stars.

In the USL Pro, Harrison Delbridge played a full match as Portland Timbers II lost 3-2 at Vancouver Whitecaps II.

In the USL Premier Development League, Aaron Schneebeli played until the 63rd minute and set up the only goal of the game as Forest City London won 1-0 over Dayton Dutch Lions. In a match played earlier in the week, Schneebeli played a full match for Forest City as they won 3-0 away to Pittsburgh River Hounds U23.

In the National Women’s Soccer League in the USA, Ellie Brush played a full match for Houston Dash as they lost 1-0 away to Washington Spirit, for whom Lydia Williams and Hayley Raso were missing due to Matildas commitments.

In club friendlies this week, Mustafa Amini played until the 79th minute while Jack Duncan came on in the 46th minute and kept a clean sheet as Randers FC played to a 1-1 draw with BK Hacken. Steven Ugarkovic came on in the 60th minute as NK Osijek lost 2-0 away to Vasas SC. Ben Halloran came on in the 46th minute as FC Heidenheim won 5-1 away to TSG Schnaitheim. Bernie Ibini also came on in the 46th minute as Club Brugge KV crushed KSK Heist 10-0.

TRANSFERS

Socceroos defender Jason Davidson has joined English Championship side Huddersfield Town following his release from West Bromwich Albion. Melbourne Victory’s double-winning captain Mark Milligan has this week joined Bani Yas in the United Arab Emirates. Ben Halloran has found a new home in Germany, joining Heidenheim from fellow 2.Bundesliga club Fortuna Dusseldorf. Isaka Cernak has left Central Coast Mariners and signed with Supersport United in South Africa. Finally, young Aussie goalkeeper Dominic Kurasik has signed a professional contract to extend his time with English Premier League club Stoke City.
