Holland: I don't know what's next

Socceroo James Holland will leave Austria Wien at the end of the season but admits he still doesn’t know where he’ll be playing next season.

The Newcastle-born midfielder, who turned 26 last month, confirmed in April that he would leave the club after three-and-a-half years in Vienna.

Holland missed Austria Wien’s final league game of the season on Sunday due to a knee problem.

He may play one more time for the club in their cup final against Red Bull Salzburg on Wednesday.

Speaking to reporters at Sunday’s game, his final at the club’s Generali Arena, he was asked where he would be playing next season.

"I don’t know yet, I honestly don’t," he said, before jokingly adding: "Barcelona.”

He added: "This isn’t goodbye, but rather until next time. You always see each other twice in life, even in football.”

In April, Holland revealed to Sky Sports Austria he wouldn’t be renewing his Austria Wien contract and said at the time: “I need a new adventure.

“I want to try something new and hopefully take a step forward.”

Holland was part of Australia’s 2014 World Cup squad but hasn’t represented the Socceroos since October last year.
