Melbourne Victory release Francesco Stella

Midfielder, Francesco Stella has been released by Melbourne Victory.

Stella, 22, joined the club midway through the 2012/13 A-League season and made just seven appearances.

Seen as a rising star, he was offered a three-year contract by Italian club Siena at the age of 18 and from there went to second division club US Borgo a Buggiano 1920 before being snapped by Scottish outfit, Rangers FC, for the start of the 2012/13 season.

Disappointed by the lack of opportunities with the financially struggling Glasgow club, he left by mutual consent and signed a two-and-a-half year deal with Victory after impressing then-coach Ange Postecoglou.

The club announced his release on Friday and thanked the player for his professionalism.
