Herrera primarily officiates in his own country, and has also been a FIFA-listed referee for over a decade.

He certainly won’t be rattled by the occasion, having reffed no less than seven Superclasicos between Boca Juniors and River Plate – ranked the biggest derby in world by FourFourTwo.

On the international stage, he’s taken charge of two games in Copa America 2024, Colombia vs Paraguay and Uruguay vs Brazil.

This will, however, be the first World Cup game he’s presided over as the main man in the middle.

Alongside him, he’ll have fellow Argentinian’s Cristian Navarro and Gabriel Chade, with the fourth official being Yusuke Araki, from Japan.

Watching the game for tough-to-spot infringements will be video assistant referee Hernan Mastrangelo, also hailing from Argentina.

His assistant will be Leodan Gonzalez, from Uruguay, with Spaniard Carlos de Cerro Grande in support.

The game kicks off at 12:00pm local time in Los Angeles, California.
