Welcome to the all-new definitive list of 2015’s heroes – and heroines – of Australian football... the top 50 best performing players over the last 12 months.
We assembled an expert panel to nominate their picks of the year, and with the help of a forum readers’ poll, our FourFourTwo team knocked them into order. For the first time ever, we have Matildas in our list, with six making the grade BEFORE the Women’s World Cup had even begun.
The selections were made on the basis of performances for club and country from June 2014 to June 2015, taking in Brazil 2014, the Asian Champions League, the triumph of the 2015 Asian Cup plus breakthrough seasons for many young stars, both in the A-League home and overseas.
Sadly it doesn’t include Kyah Simon who missed much of the year through injury despite her starring role at the current WWC. Next year however...
But who did make the grade? And who missed out? Who should we have included and why? Was Player A really 20 spots better than Player B? Let the debate begin...
