Aussies Abroad weekend wrap

Mathew Leckie and Nikita Rukavytsya continue to shine in Germany with a goal and assist in an otherwise lacklustre weekend for the OS Aussies.

In the EPL Brad Jones was an unused substitute when Liverpool thrashed league leaders Arsenal in a 5-1 win. Mark Schwarzer was also an unused substitute in Chelsea’s 3-0 win against Newcastle which earned them the top position. Chris Herd was absent from the match day squad in Aston Villa’s 2-0 loss at home against West Ham. Mile Jedinak played a full match in a 3-1 win against West Bromwich Albion which lifts Crystal Palace to the 13th place.

In the League Championship Scott McDonald came on in the 68th minute when Millwall lost 1-3 at Burley where Alex Cisak was on the bench. Shane Lowry was missing for Millwall due to suspension. Rhys Williams was sidelined due to ruptured Achilles for Middlesbrough (scoreless draw against Blackburn) and Adam Federici was an unused substitute for Reading in a 2-0 at home against Sheffield Wednesday.

In League One Bailey Wright and Neil Kilkenny played full matches when Preston snared a narrow 2-1 win at Tranmere. Massimo Luongo (3-2 for Swindon at Port Vale) and Bradden Inman (3-3 for Crewe at Bradford) also played for their respective teams. James Meredith (broken foot) was missing for Bradford as well as Dean Bouzanis (Carlisle United/2-1 at home against Gillingham).

In League Two Ryan Williams was still missing for Oxford in their 1-1 draw at Bristol Rovers. Shane Cansdell-Sherriff played a full match when Burton won 1-0 at Morecambe and Ben McNamara was absent from Northampton’s match squad in a 2-0 loss at home against Plymouth.

In the Conference Premier Mitchell Austin played 63 minutes and provided the assist to Lincoln’s 1-0 lead. His team won 4-3 at Hyde. Lee Burns played a full match when Dartford won 2-1 at Wrexham.

In the German Bundesliga Bayer Leverkusen recorded a 1-0 win at Mönchengladbach and was still without the services of Robbie Kruse (torn ACL). Mitch Langerak was an unused substitute when Borussia Dortmund send Werder Bremen a 5-1 packing in Bremen.

In the German 2. Bundesliga Nikita Rukavytsya and Mathew Leckie were on fire. Rukavytsya scored the first goal in the 52nd minute to give FSV Frankfurt the lead at Bochum, assisted by Leckie who also set up the winning goal in the 70th minute to make it 2-1.

In the German 3. Liga Mustafa Amini was still sidelined when Borussia Dortmund II lost 2-1 at Regensburg.

In Italy’s Serie B Carl Valeri played the last 29 minutes when Ternana drew 1-1 at home against Avellino.

In the Excellenza Trento Alto-Aldige in Italy Josip Konyit made his debut for Trento Calcio in a 2-1 win against ASV Salerno and played a full match.

In the Dutch Eredivisie Eli Babalj was not in AZ Alkmaar’s squad when AZ lost 2-1 at Go Ahead Eagles. Jason Davidson played another full match for Heracles Almelo in a 1-1 draw against SC Cambuur. Trent Sainsbury was not in the squad for PEC Zwolle when they drew 1-1 against AFC Ajax. Tommy Oar played a full match when Utrecht went down 5-2 at Waalwijk with Adam Sarota missing due to suspension.

In the Dutch Eerste Divisie Andrew Marveggio came on for Telstar (5-0 in Sittard) in the 78th minute when the match was already lost.

In the Dutch Topklasse Bryan Bran played a full match in FC Chabab’s 1-0 loss at HBS-Craeyenhout.

In Turkey’s SüperLig Kerem Bulut was absent again when Akhisar Belediyespor won 4-2 at Trabzonspor.

In Belgium’s Eerste Klasse Mathew Ryan played a full match for Club Brugge (3-1 at KRC Genk) which keeps his team in second position.

In the Football League 2 in Greece Billy Konstantinidis played a full match when Panserraikos secured a 1-0 win against Kilkisiakos Kilkis with the last kick of the match. Niko Tsattalios played 70 minutes in Kambaniakos’ 1-0 win against Doxa Kranoula.
