Aussies Abroad weekend wrap

It was a decent weekend for the Aussies playing abroad with some goals - including a vital strike from Curtis Good for his loan club Dundee United - and a surprising number of 1-1 draws.

In England’s FA Cup Mark Schwarzer warmed the bench as Chelsea bowed out of the cup at Manchester City (2-0) but Brad Jones played a full match for Liverpool in a 2-1 at Arsenal.

In the Championship Alex Cisak was an unused substitute for Burnley in their 1-1 draw at Bournemouth. Scott McDonald came on for Millwall in their 1-1 against Bolton Wanderers while Shane Lowry was missing due to suspension. Rhys Williams was missing for Middlesbrough when the team lost 1-0 at Watford. Adam Federici was an unused substitute for Reading in their 3-1 win at Queens Park Rangers.

In League One Massimo Luongo played a full match in Swindon’s scoreless draw against Colchester. Bailey Wright and Neil Kilkenny both played full matches in Preston North End’s 1-1 draw against Leyton Orient. James Wesolowski also played the full 90 minutes when Oldham lost 2-1 at MK Dons. Bradden Inman played 87 minutes in Crewe Alexandra’s 3-1 loss at home against Brentford.

In League Two Ryan Williams was back from injury and came on for Oxford United in their 3-0 win against Mansfield. Shane Cansdell-Sherriff played a full match for Burton in a 1-1 draw against Dagenham & Redbridge. Aaron Downes played the last 15 minute when Torquay United lost 3-1 at Chesterfield.

In the first semi-final of the FA Trophy Mitchell Austin was back on the bench for Cambridge United after the club ended his loan at Lincoln City. Cambridge won the first leg by 2-1 against Grimsby Town.

In the German Bundesliga Robbie Kruse was still sidelined due to torn ACL and could not help Leverkusen in their 2-1 loss at home against Schalke 04 which extens the margin to leaders FC Bayern to 16 points. Mitch Langerak was an unused substitute for Dortmund when they won 4-0 against Frankfurt.

In Germany’s 2. Bundesliga Ben Halloran played 75 minute when Fortuna Düsseldorf had 1-1 draw against Union Berlin. Matthew Leckie played a full match for FSV Frankfurt in their 3-2 win against Dresden while Nikita Rukavytsya was sacrificed in the 12th minute after one of Frankfurt’s defenders was sent of and Dresden converted the resulting free-kick to make it 1-0. FSV came from behind with 10 men for most of the time.

In the Regionalliga West Kwame Yeboah played 61 minute in a scorless draw between Mönchengladbach II and Wiedenbrück.

In Italy’s Serie B Carl Valeri played the first full match for Ternana Calcio after his injury in a 1-1 draw at Brescia.

In Italy’s youth competition the Campionato Primavera Chris Ikonomidis played 70 minutes for Lazio Youth in their 2-0 win at Catania who had Paul Katsetis on the bench.

In the Eccellenza Trentino Alto-Adige in Italy Josip Konyit played a full match for Trento Calcio when they lost 2-0 at Comano Fiavé.

In Portugal’s Primeira Liga Caleb Patterson-Sewell was an unused substitute when Gil Vicente lost 2-1 at home against FC Porto.

In the Dutch Eredivisie Jason Davidson played a full match when Heracles Almelo lost 2-1 at PSV Eindhoven. Eli Babalj was still absent when AZ Alkmaar had a 1-1 draw against Utrecht. Tommy Oar and Adam Sarota both had full shifts for Utrecht. Trent Sainsbury was missing due to a fractured kneecap when PEC Zwolle lost 3-1 at SC Cambuur.

In the Dutch Eerste Divisie Harry Ascroft was an unused substitute while Travis Cooper was absent when Venlo won 3-0 at home against Twente’s youth team. Andrew Marveggio was an unused substitute in Telstar’s 2-2 draw at home against PSV’s youth team.

In the Topklasse in the Netherlands Bryan Bran played a full match when FC Chabab lost 0-2 against VVSB.

In the Turkish SüperLig Kerem Bulut was not in the squad when Akhisar Belediyespor lost 2-0 at home aginst Kayseri Erciyespor.

In the Turkish 2. Lig Emre Balci was starting for İnegölspor in their 2-2 draw at Turgutluspor.

In the Turkish 3. Lig Savas Özdemir was an unused substitute when Bafraspor lost 2-1 at Refahiyespor.

In the Eerste Klasse in Belgium Mathew Ryan played another full shift when Club Brugge won 3-1 against Kortrijk which keeps them in second position.

In the Greek Superleague Apostolis Giannou played a full match in Panionios’ 2-0 win against PAS Giannina.

In the Greek Football League 2 Billy Konstantinidis played a full match when Panserraikos lost the crucial match at Agrotikos Asteras (1-0). The margin is five points now with only one team being promoted in summer. Niko Tsattalios had a weekend off as Kambaniakos won their match by default.

In the Swiss Super League Oliver Bozanic played a full match in Luzern’s 3-2 win at home against Aaron while Dario Vidošić played the last 29 minutes in FC Sion’s 1-0 loss at FC Basel.

In the First Division in Cyprus Robert Stambolziev played 83 minutes and set up AE Kouklion’s only goal in their 2-1 loss at Omonia Nicosia.

In the Austrian Bundesliga James Holland played 65 minutes when FK Austria Wien had a 1-1 draw against Wiener Neustadt.

In the Prva Liga in Croatia Tomislav Mrčela played another full shift when Hrvatski Dragovoljac lost 2-1 at Hajduk Split. Mrčela was on target in stoppage time scoring the visitors’ only goal. Steven Ugarković played the last 25 minute for NK Osijek in their impressive 4-1 win against Slaven Belupo.

In the Scottish Premiership Curtis Good played a full match for Dundee United and scored (2-2) in their 3-2 against Kilmarnock for whom Jackson Irvine also played a full match. Another full match was played by Dylan McGowan in Hearts’ scoreless draw at Inverness.

In the Scottish Championship Sebastian Usai was an unused substitute for Cowdenbeath in their 1-1 draw at Greenock Morton.

In Iran Iain Fyfe was an unused substitute for Mes Kerman in their narrow 1-0 loss against Tractor Sazi in the Hazfi Cup final.

In China Jonas Salley and Guizhou Renhe remarkably won the Chinese Super Cup as they won 1-0 against AFC Champions League winner Guangzhou Evergrande.

In the First Division League in Hong Kong Andrew Barišić was on target for South China again. He played a full match and scored the final goal in stoppage time in South China’s 3-1 win against Yokohama FC Hong Kong. Dylan Macallister played a full match in Eastern AA’s 3-4 loss at home against Hong Kong Rangers.

In Vietnam’s V.League Sam Gallagher also scored for Hà Nội T&T when his team won 5-2 against Hải Phòng. Sam Gallagher scored in the 38' making it 3-1 for Hà Nội.

In the Super League in Malaysia Mario Karlović played a full match and scored the first goal when Terengganu won 2-0 against Pahang which lifts them to the top of the league after Selangor, coached by Mehmet Duraković, suffered a 4-1 loss at Darul Takzim. Steven Pantelidis also played a full match for Selangor. Spase Dilevski was not in the squad for ATM when the team lost 2-1 at home against Singapore Lions XII.

In Malaysia’s Premier League Srećko Mitrović played a full match when Sabah FA won 1-0 at UiTM. Adam Griffiths and Adriano Pellegrino were both missing in Kedah’s match squad (1-0 against Negeri Sembilan) which is coached by David Mitchell.

In the I-League in India Simon Colosimo played a full match while Tolgay Özbey played until stoppage time when Arthur Papas’ Dempo SC recorded a 2-0 win against Rangdajied. James Meyer was absent in Pune’s match squad while Jerry Karpeh played 89 minutes for Sporting Goa as both teams played out a 1-1 draw.

In New Zealand’s Premiership Richard Cardozo played a full match for Waitakere and scored the equaliser shortly before the end in a 1-1 draw at WaiBOP United for whom George Slefendorfas was not in the match squad. Jamie de Abreu was missing for Team Wellington in their 4-1 win at Wanderers SC.
