Ban reduced for Saudi spitman

Disgraced Al Hilal striker Nassir Al Shamrani has successfully reduced his ban for spitting and headbutting Western Sydney Wanderers defender Matthew Spiranovic in last year’s AFC Champions League final.

Al Shamrani was originally banned for eight games for the ugly scenes following the Wanderers historic 1-0 aggregate win over the Saudi club.

But an appeal to the Court of Arbitration for Sport saw the panel reduce the ban to six matches, with the other two moved to a two-year probationary period.

Last year’s Asian Footballer of the Year has already served two matches of the ban.

He will miss Al Hilal’s final two group games of the ACL and the round of 16 tie should they qualify.
