The future of Sydney FC star Alessandro Del Piero is again at the centre of speculation with the former Juventus great now linked with a move to English club Leeds United.
Sports Direct News is reporting that the Sky Blues skipper is being targeted by the new owner of the Championship outfit.
Overnight it was confirmed that a 75 per cent stake in the club had been sold to colourful agri-entrepreneur Massimo Cellino, subject to Football League approval.
Cellino, who is trying to off-load his Serie A club Cagliari, is reportedly in the market for a big name signing to herald his latest acquisition.
Rumours were rife late last month that Del Piero, in his second season with the Sky Blues, was headed for Thai Premier League club PTT Rayong.
At the time, Sydney FC coach Frank Farina said the Italian maestro remained fully committed to the harbour-siders.
"I think the Thai club (rumour) was most probably an older one that's been dragged back up again, but Alessandro's focus is here," Farina said.
"We're in a situation where we're still very much in the fight and close to everything so his focus is on Sydney FC at the moment.”
The 39-year-old is due to begin talks with club officials about the possibility of extending his stay in Sydney for another season.3 comments
