Newly capped Socceroo Chris Herd will join English Championship club Bolton Wanderers on a one-month loan from Aston Villa according to UK reports.
Herd, who made his Socceroos debut against Belgium earlier this month, is yet to appear for Aston Villa this season.
The 25-year-old defender/midfielder is in the final year of his contract at Villa Park and badly needs game-time ahead of the 2015 Asian Cup.
The Birmingham Mail has reported that Villa boss Paul Lambert is willing to allow Herd to chase opportunities elsewhere on a temporary basis.
Herd only managed two appearances for the Villans last term, both in the league in December, and missed the final few months of the season for personal reasons.
The Australian performed well in pre-season at Villa and featured in a number of friendlies, but hasn’t been able to break into the side in competitive action.
Herd was an unused substitute for a Capital One Cup clash with Leyton Orient last month, but otherwise hasn’t been sighted.
The Perth-born utility’s most recent action was in Australia colours, starting against both Belgium and Saudi Arabia earlier this month.
Bolton, who are managed by Dougie Freedman, are currently 21st in England’s second tier.
Herd would be the Trotters’ third signing of the week, following Paddy Kenny and Max Clayton.comments
