Injury-ridden Socceroo sidelined again

Forgotten Socceroo Rhys Williams has suffered another injury playing for Middlesbrough’s reserves on Monday night.

The injury-cursed 27-year-old, who told FourFourTwo last week he is interested in an A-League switch at season’s end, was taken for scans on a suspected fractured cheek bone.

Williams had to be replaced with 10 minutes to go in Middlesbrough’s 1-0 loss to Sunderland.

The setback is the latest in a long list of injuries for Williams who missed almost two years of football with Achilles problems.

Monday’s match was Williams’ 11th game in the reserves since returning from the Achilles injury, having not missed a training session for four months.

Middlesbrough are yet to confirm the extent of the cheek bone injury.
