Joeys off the mark in AFC U16 Championship

The Joeys are off the mark at the 2014 AFC U16 Championship following a 3-0 win over China PR in their opening Group B game.

Tony Vidmar's men went in to the break at half-time with a 1-0 lead thanks to a goal after 21 minutes from Jackson Bandiera.

The Joeys then added a further two goals in the second 45 minutes, first through Cameron Joice and then Kosta Petratos.

Joice made it 2-0 on the hour mark when he was picked out by Daniel Maskin at the far post, before Petratos followed up Maskin's saved shot with twenty minutes to go.

Australia's next assignment is against Hong Kong on Monday, who went down to Japan 2-0 in the other opening group stage encounter.

The Joeys will then face Japan on Wednesday in the final Group B match.

The top four sides from the AFC U16 Championships will qualify for the FIFA U17 World Cup in Chile next year.
