McBreen keeps SIPG in Asian Champions League hunt

Former A-League Golden Boot winner Daniel McBreen netted his fifth goal of the 2014 Chinese Super League season to keep Shanghai SIPG in the hunt for AFC Champions League qualification on Wednesday.

McBreen scored SIPG’s equalising goal on 44 minutes in their 3-1 triumph away to Shanghai Shenxin.

The former Central Coast Mariners striker glanced home from a corner to send his side on their way to victory.

The strike makes it four goals for 37-year-old McBreen in his past seven league matches for SIPG.

The result also moves SIPG up to fifth on the table, level on points with Ryan McGowan’s fourth-placed Shandong Luneng.

World Cup Socceroos defender McGowan played a full game as Shandong blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Jiangsu Sainty on Wednesday.

The match was McGowan’s second league appearance since the World Cup where he played all three games for Australia.
