The A-League All Stars squad continues to take shape with three attacking players from Melbourne’s two A-League clubs added to the mix ahead of the August 10 clash with Juventus in Sydney.
Voted by the fans, the Victorian-based trio of Melbourne City forward David Williams and Melbourne Victory duo Besart Berisha and Gui Finkler are the latest to join the squad of All Stars coach Josep Gombau.
The trio join Central Coast Mariners duo Josh Rose and Storm Roux, Sydney FC’s Sasa Ognenovski and Ali Abbas and Western Sydney Wanderers’ Tomi Juric and Matthew Spiranovic as the players revealed to date.
Williams’ selection comes after he became City’s all-time leading scorer in an impressively consistent campaign last season.
The 26-year-old was a standout during the club’s slump in the early part of their campaign before flourishing even more under new coach John van‘t Schip.
Berisha made the high-profile move to Melbourne Victory after playing an integral part in helping Brisbane Roar claim their third Hyundai A-League championship last season.
The Albanian international marksman has been - and continues to be - one of the most prolific strikers in the Hyundai A-League, netting 13 goals from 20 appearances last season.
Having played and scored in the inaugural Foxtel A-League All Stars’ match against Manchester United last year, Berisha is excited by the prospect of facing the world-class Juventus defence.
“It was special to be part of the Foxtel A-League All Stars squad last year and it was an amazing match,” Berisha said.
“I know this year will be just as exciting with another big opponent coming to Australia. It should be a strong A-League side and there are some very good players I'm looking forward to playing with on August 10.”
Gui Finkler found the back of the net nine times last season for Victory, which included a stunning free kick against Wanderers.
A crowd favourite among the Victory faithful, the Brazilian playmaker’s skill has now been recognised by fans across the country.
"I'm certainly looking forward to taking on Juventus in Sydney and meeting up with the rest of the All Stars squad,” Finkler added.
“It's a great honour to be in the team and a big thank you to everyone who voted for me.
“It will be a great match and should be very exciting to play against such a big club.”
Of the 20-player A-League All Stars squad, 16 come from fans’ votes while the remaining four wild card picks are left to the discretion of Gombau and his assistant coach Phil Moss.
The Foxtel A-League All Stars will meet Juventus at ANZ Stadium in Sydney on 10 August with the match to be broadcast live and exclusive on the Seven Network nationally.
