Newcastle Jets grant Paratore trial

Newcastle Jets will offer young Australian midfielder Robert Paratore the chance of an A-League contract with a one-week trial next week.

The 19-year-old has spent the past four seasons in Leicester City's youth ranks, but was released by the club in May.

Paratore was recommended to the club by former Socceroo Vincenzo Grella.

“Robert is coming out on Monday and he’ll be with us for a week," Newcastle Jets head coach Phil Stubbins said.

“His CV is pretty strong, he’s played for a club in the English Premier League in their youth system and he’s been there for four years.

“He’s a genuine screening, holding midfield player and hopefully things work out and he acquits himself well.”

Stubbins says is eager to see what the young midfielder can add to his midfield after losing out on the signing of Erik Paartalu.

“I think for our own diligence, a one-week trial is the way to go,” Stubbins said.

“We’ve decided that we need to give that window of opportunity to ourselves to have a look at the player and also for the kid to come out here and represent himself in the right way.

“The kid has shown a lot of passion about wanting to return to Australian football.”
