Tommy Oar returned to action at FC Utrecht on Wednesday but it appears increasingly likely he’ll leave the club on a free transfer at the end of the season.
Oar was transfer-listed by Utrecht during January with his contract set to expire at the conclusion of the 2014-15 season.
The 23-year-old winger, who has the second most assists in the Eredivisie this season, has been linked with Ajax Amsterdam but no offer transpired during the January transfer window.
Speaking after returning to action following the Asian Cup, with a full game in Wednesday’s 1-0 loss to Willem II, Oar admitted he could leave the club empty handed in the European summer as he seeks to look after his own career by becoming a free agent.
"Ideally, Utrecht can earn something from my sale, but now we’re heading towards the summer and I have to think of my career,” Oar told the Algemeen Dagblad.
Oar has spent almost five years at Utrecht since his move alongside Michael Zullo and Adam Sarota from Brisbane Roar in April 2010.
He has previously admitted he’d consider a contract extension to ensure he doesn’t leave Utrecht empty handed but his latest comments suggest he may have changed his mind.
"It is unlikely that I’ll play for Utrecht next year," Oar said.
"My first goal was to complete a transfer after the World Cup in Brazil. When that failed, I shifted my desire to move during the winter transfer window."
"But that it did not work out so it is now the next period, next summer.”
Voetbal Primeur has also claimed there has been interest from England and Italy in Oar.comments
