Perth Glory v Newcastle Jets: Player Ratings

Jamie Maclaren was the hero as Perth Glory came from behind in the final 15 minutes to clinch a 2-1 win over Newcastle Jets at nib Stadium on Saturday.

Perth Glory

DANNY VUKOVIC – 6

Should of done better with goal, beaten at near post, other than that wasn’t tested.

JACK CLISBY – 6

Defended Jacob Pepper well all night and made some good forays into the opposition’s half.

MICHAEL THWAITE – 6.5

When asked to defend, he did it well. Had a presence at set pieces.

DINO DJULBIC – 7

Made some important tackles and interceptions. Wasn’t to blame for the goal as the keeper should of done better at the near post. Looked solid.

DIOGO FERREIRA – 6

Overlapping runs and tried to get in behind the defensive line a number of times. Stuck on well.

ROSTYN GRIFFITHS – 7.5

Looked very solid in the defensive midfield role. Made good tackles and interceptions. Don’t have a bad word to say about him.

DANIEL DE SILVA – 6

Played very well for 70 minutes. Passed the ball around well.

YOUSSOUF HERSI – 7.5

Worked hard all night. Made dangerous runs into the forward half. Constant.

NEBOJSA MARINKOVIC – 7

Passed the ball well all game. His corners and set pieces were quality.

MITCH NICHOLS – 6.5

Productive first half and went missing in the second. Subbed off at 72nd minute.

ANDY KEOGH – 5

Was poor throughout the whole match, with only having the one shot at goal. Seen better days.

Substitutes

SCOTT JAMIESON- 6.5

Came on and continued Clisby’s job on Pepper. Even though he let Pepper get an assist, Jamieson got an assist of his own with a low cross to find Maclaren.

RICHARD GARCIA – n/a

Brought on without much impact.

JAMIE MACLAREN – 9

SUPER SUB! Match Winner, nothing more to say.

Newcastle Jets

MARK BIRIGHITTI – 6

Made some brilliant saves, other than that couldn’t blame him on the goals, as the defending was average.

JACOB PEPPER – 6.5

Played a beautiful through ball over the top to put in Jeronimo for the only goal for Newcastle.

TAYLOR REGAN – 6.5

Probably should of done better with interception of the goal, other than defended pretty well.

KEW JALIENS – 7

Wasn’t to blame for any of the goals. He stuck on well all night and couldn't do much more at the back.

SAM GALLAGHER – 5.5

Let Ferreira get in behind him a few times. Couldn’t get forward, because Newcastle were defending the whole game and when Newcastle went forward he didn’t threaten.

BEN KANTAROVSKI – 6.5

Partnered well with Welsh in the defensive midfield position. Made some Important interceptions and tackles.

DAVID CARNEY – 5.5

Wasn’t one of his better games, playing in a central midfield role. We will leave that for another day.

JERONIMO NEUMANN – 7

When Newcastle went forward this man looked very dangerous, as he scored the only goal for Newcastle.

ALLAN WELSH - 6

When Newcastle hit on the counter attack he was always there or thereabouts.

ANDREW HOOLE – 6

Got in behind Ferreira a couple times and made some dangerous passes.

JOEL GRIFFITHS – 6.5

Worked very hard all game. Played as if he was a box-to-box midfielder at some points of the game.

Substitutes

EDSON MONTANO – n/a

Came on in the 72nd but couldn’t get going. Let Maclaren score the match winner on him.

JAMES VIRGILI – n/a

Didn’t really do much when bought on.

ZENON CARAVELLA – n/a

Same as Virgili, brought on in the 83rd minute with no impact.
