Roma finalise deal for Perth young gun De Silva
The deal, for an undisclosed fee, was finalised on Thursday night after protracted discussions between the clubs which began with meetings in Rome during March.
De Silva, 17, became Perth’s youngest ever professional player when he signed for the club in February 2013, making his debut the following month in a 2-1 home win over Sydney FC.
He has since made a further 13 A-League appearances for the club and has represented Australia at both U17 and U20 level.
De Silva scored his first goal for his country in a man of the match performance against Colombia during the 2013 FIFA U20 World Cup in Turkey in a game that ended in a 1-1 draw.
The agreement means the teenager will spend the upcoming 2014/15 campaign with Glory.
Perth CEO Jason Brewer told the club’s official website: "This is a great opportunity for Daniel and is a clear indication of the talent that he has.
“To have Daniel remain with Perth Glory for the upcoming 2014/15 Hyundai A-League season, is also a great result for the club and I hope that our fans will get the opportunity to see him in plenty of action this year.
“This is also an important season for Daniel, who will be looking to establish himself in the Perth Glory team and will also want to impress ahead of the FIFA U20 World Cup in New Zealand next year.”
He added: “To start the season with this all now finalised is fantastic news,” Brewer added.
Club chairman Tony Sage said it was great news for Glory fans who will have an opportunity to watch the rising star develop over the coming season.
“Daniel will continue to play for Perth Glory this coming season as he continues to develop into one of the best footballing talents this country has ever produced,” Sage said.
De Silva will join up with his Perth Glory teammates for pre-season training on June 18.
