Rukavytsya signs with Israeli club

Fringe Socceroo Nikita Rukavytsya has finally sorted his club future, signing a one-year deal with Beitar Jerusalem.

The former Western Sydney forward was linked to a return to Perth Glory but that looked increasingly unlikely as the weeks rolled on.

Beitar confirmed the signing on the club website overnight, characterising the 13-capped international “as very fast player who can play offensive positions,” as a striker and on the left wing.

The 28-year-old, who has also played in the Netherlands and Germany, will line-up in the Israeli Premier League in 2015/16 with the club holding an option for another year.

Rukavytsya completes ther foreign quota for the six-time champions who finished fourth last season.

It is not the first time the Australian, who is married to an Israeli, has been linked with that part of the world.

He came close to signing a two-year deal with champions Maccabi Tel Aviv last year before Wanderers coach Tony Popovic threw him a lifeline.

Rukavytsya has played five years abroad but was hoping a return to Australia last season would reignite his international career after being frozen out at Mainz.

He showed only flashes of his potential at Western Sydney, scoring three goals in 23 appearances.
