Villarreal name squad for Oz tour

La Liga club, Villarreal, have named a 19-player squad to travel to Australia for the LFP World Challenge.

Coach Marcelino Garcia’s men arrive in Adelaide on Thursday morning before a training session in the evening.

The Spanish outfit tackle Adelaide United on Friday night at Coopers Stadium then travel to Brisbane to take on Brisbane Roar on Wednesday June 3.

The Reds match will be a historic night for the A-League outfit and Spanish side with Villarreal hitting Australia shores for the first time in the club’s 92-year history.

It will also be the first time a La Liga side has played at Coopers Stadium.

Adelaide skipper, Eugene Galekovic, spoke of the significance of this game.

“For the players who play in the Hyundai A-League to play against a La Liga team is massive," Galekovic told United’s website.

. You don’t get many types of games like these in your career.

“I think any player that goes out on the field is going to give it everything they’ve got and in years to come they will look back and say this is probably one of their career highlights."
