Young guns sign with Melbourne City
Retre, 21, spent two years with the club’s National Youth League team before snaring his first senior contract.
The midfielder travelled to England with Melbourne City FC last month and featured in matches against Bury, Oldham Athletic and Bolton Wanderers.
Melbourne-raised Retre was handed four senior appearances last season while contracted to the youth team, and has continued to impress Head Coach John van’t Schip.
“Paulo has obviously been with us for some time and his signing builds on our tradition of developing and promoting players from youth to senior contracts - and rewarding those players who illustrate progress,” van’t Schip said.
Meanwhile young striker Marino, an AIS product, also caught the eye of City while playing in the NYL and has signed on as a youth player.
Along with Jacob Melling, who signed in May, Marino fills one of the three additional youth spots allowed to A-League clubs outside of their 23-player squad.
The mobile and hard-working number 9 trialled for City against Whittlesea in a behind-closed-doors match before the team left for their Manchester pre-season camp.
Van’t Schip said: “We have been very impressed by Marc’s progress. Marc looks like a natural goal-scorer and has a good instinct in the penalty box.
“He finds a way to get in behind players to finish and create goal-scoring opportunities which is particularly exciting for us.”
