Young Socceroo Lyden out for two months

Aston Villa has confirmed Australia Under-20 international Jordan Lyden will be sidelined for up to two months of action due to a torn quad muscle sustained on the weekend.

Lyden, who broke through with first-team six appearances in 2015-16, had to be replaced after 75 minutes in Aston Villa’s final day 4-0 loss to Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday.

There were initial fears the 20-year-old had suffered a serious knee injury, as he appeared in discomfort as he left the field and with caretaker boss Eric Black saying he’d “tweaked his meniscus”.

However, Villa provided an update on Wednesday afternoon, confirming the news was better than expected and revealing it was a thigh/quad problem.

The update stated the Lyden should be back fit just after Villa commences pre-season at the beginning of July.

“Our medical team hope to see the young Aussie midfielder out on the fields soon after that, ahead of the August 6 Championship opener,” the statement read.

Perth-born Lyden will undergo treatment at Villa’s Bodymoor Heath training ground through the off-season.
