The Young Socceroos staged a stunning comeback to defeat Chile 5-4 at the 2014 NTC Invitational tournament in California on Thursday morning (Australian time).
Another brilliant brace from Adelaide United's Awer Mabil helped exact a small measure of revenge against the South Americans after their senior team downed the Socceroos 3-1 at the World Cup.
The nine-goal thriller makes it back-to-back wins in the round robin tournament for the Aussies after they triumphed over Bermuda 3-1 earlier in the week.
But they had to do it the hard way, coming from 4-2 down to defeat their classy opponents.
In a see-sawing match the Young Socceroos raced off to a two-goal lead with strikes to Marc Marino and Brisbane Roar’s Devante Clut.
Chile replied with four goals to stun the Australians.
Then with the game seemingly out of reach, super-sub Awer Mabil popped up twice to level the match.
And Perth Glory’s Italian bound playmaker Daniel de Silva iced the cake with a winner to make it 5-4 in one of the most exciting games in Young Socceroo history.
Striker Mabil's star continues to rise, bringing his goal tally to four for the tournament after his brace against Bermuda.
Saturday’s final game against the USA will be streamed live on US Soccer’s website (kick off midday AEST).
