For a country like Australia, noted more for producing hardworking, athletic players as opposed to skilful play makers there is always a few exceptions to the rule - Steve Corica is one of those exceptions.
In a career spanning 20 years, almost 500 top flight appearances and 32 Socceroos caps, Steve Corica followed a football path that took him to the UK playing in the Midlands for Leicester, Wolves and Walsall, to Japan where he played for Sanfrecce Hiroshima and of course Australia where his career began with Marconi Stallions and ended as a two-time A-League Champion with Sydney FC.
More after the break
Throughout his career Steve was noted for his ability to find space in tight areas in midfield and pick the perfect pass. Comfortable on the ball and with a keen eye for a goal he remains one of the classiest and best regarded midfielders Australia has produced.
We caught up with Steve at the Sutherland Shire FA where he kindly agreed to reveal his secrets to FourFourTwo Performance in this Midfield Masterclass series.
In part four hear Steve outline the importance of a good first touch for a midfield player.
Steve Corica is now assistant coach at Sydney FC and runs his own Coerver Coaching Clinics in Sydney’s Eastern Suburbs. Click here to find out more.
