Chelsea report: Blues would prefer Serie A star to Cristiano Ronaldo, says transfer insider
Chelsea are considering adding to their attacking ranks over the next two transfer windows
Chelsea have been linked with a move for Cristiano Ronaldo, but a transfer insider claims they would prefer to sign his international team-mate.
ESPN writes that Manchester United are prepared to let Ronaldo leave on a free after he was criticised for departing Old Trafford before the end of last week's 2-0 victory over Tottenham.
Ronaldo, who is out of contract next summer and valued at £18m by Transfermarkt, is said to be on Chelsea's radar - just as he was in the summer.
Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly remains interested in bringing Ronaldo to Stamford Bridge, although it is unclear how keen Graham Potter is on the prospect.
And according to a transfer insider, the Blues would prefer to do a deal for Rafael Leao, who plays alongside Ronaldo for the Portugal national team.
CBS journalist Ben Jacobs has tweeted that Leao is among Potter's top transfer targets as Chelsea's squad rebuild looks set to continue in January and next summer.
The Blues boss, who remains unbeaten since taking charge last month, is also a fan of Brentford striker Ivan Toney and Lille frontman Jonathan David.

Leao was an integral part of AC Milan's successful season last time out, with the forward votes the most valuable player in Serie A as his team won the title.
He has made a fantastic start to the current campaign too, scoring five goals and providing four assists in the league.
The 23-year-old is attracting the interest of clubs around Europe, and the fact his contract expires in 2024 means he may well be on the move next summer.
Chelsea will no doubt face stiff competition for Leao's signature given the strength of his performances over the last 18 months.
Potter's side can secure their place in the knockout phase of the Champions League by beating Red Bull Salzburg on Tuesday.
