Liverpool and Tottenham will both be looking to bounce back from disappointing draws at the weekend when they meet at Anfield on Wednesday.

The champions were incredibly flat in the opening half, and although they improved after the interval, Liverpool were ultimately second best for much of the game in west London. Tottenham seemed to take their foot off the gas in the second half against Palace, but they may well be better suited to taking on teams like Liverpool. Diogo Jota is out until February after injuring his knee in last week’s Champions League victory over Midtjylland. Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk are long-term absentees, but Trent Alexander-Arnold returned to the Liverpool team for the draw at Fulham. Joel Matip was withdrawn at half-time of that game with a back injury and will need to be assessed before Wednesday evening, but Xherdan Shaqiri, Thiago Alcantara, Konstantinos Tsimikas and James Milner are definitely out.
Spurs will welcome back Gareth Bale to their matchday squad after the Welshman was left out of the 18-man travelling party at the weekend. Erik Lamela is still out, with Mourinho likely to stick with the same XI that began the game at Selhurst Park. Dele Alli will hope for another run-out after his cameo appearance against Palace.
