Newcastle could be at the bare bones for the visit of West Brom on Saturday after losing several first-team players to an outbreak of Covid-19.
The Magpies’ Premier League clash with Aston Villa last Friday became the first top-flight fixture of the season to be postponed following the outbreak.
Boss Steve Bruce said before the game that he is missing a “big chunk” of his squad, although three unnamed players have returned to training after testing negative.
West Brom travel to St. James’ Park looking for just their second win of the season, and sit second-bottom of the table with just six points.
Slaven Bilic’s side were thrashed 5-1 by Crystal Palace last time out and the Croatian is expected to react by making sweeping changes to his starting line-up.
Matheus Pereira begins a three-match suspension after being sent off in the defeat, while Jake Livermore, Kieran Gibbs and Filip Krovinovic could come into the Baggies XI.
Newcastle knocked West Brom out of the FA Cup back in March but have recorded just one win in their last five league meetings.
