Thai club approaches Roar skipper Matt Smith
The Hyundai A-League Champions are now waiting for a formal offer from the club.
Roar chairman Chris Fong said the Queensland outfit had hoped to keep Smith, who still has 18 months remaining on his contract.
“Matt has expressed the view to the club that he believes this possible move is in his best interests at this stage of his playing career,’’ Fong said.
“Brisbane Roar will await a formal offer from the club and will then consider Matt’s request.’’
English-born Smith joined the Roar ahead of the 2010/11 season and was named captain of the club in August 2012.
He has been a part of the Roar’s three A-League Grand Final wins (2011, 2012 and 2014) and two Premiers’ Plate (2010/11 and 2013/14). He has played more than 100 times for the Roar.
