Fly-shy Guerrero to remain in Peru

BERLIN - Hamburg SV striker Paolo Guerrero will remain in Peru for the time being after his fear of flying prevented him returning to Germany, the club said on Saturday.

The Peru international, who was the club's top scorer until tearing cruciate ligaments in a World Cup qualifier against Venezuela in September, should have returned to Germany to continue treatment for his injury but has stepped off the plane on four occasions in recent weeks.

"We want to take the pressure off him now," coach Bruno Labbadia said in a statement. "Paolo should be treated in peace and quiet."

Hamburg said the 26-year-old would continue his rehabilitation in Peru with a club physiotherapist flying over next week to help out before Guerrero began treatment with local experts to tackle his fear of flying.
