LUANDA - Hosts Angola are not satisfied with reaching the knockout phase of the African Nations Cup and have targeted a place in the final.
Regarded as outsiders before the start of the tournament after a series of mediocre performances over the last two years, Angola have scored six goals in the first round and are riding a wave of home support.
"We have equaled Angola's previous record in the African Nations Cup and we are ready to kill ourselves to reach the semi-finals, the finals and even win the tournament," said coach Manuel Jose after his team's goalless draw against Algeria ensured they finished top of Group A.
It is the second time Angola have reached the quarter-finals in their five appearances at the finals.
Angola will play the runners-up from Group B in the next round. Ivory Coast have already advanced from that group, with Ghana and Burkina Faso in contention for the other spot.
"We are ready to play any team," Jose said. "I hope the best team wins. Personally I would prefer to see Burkina come through because I am a friend of the team's coach."comments
