Sweden got off to a flying start with a resounding victory against Tunisia at the 2026 World Cup, but were brought back down to earth by a ruthless Dutch outfit on matchday two.

Nobody could accuse Graham Potter's side of being a boring watch this tournament with 12 goals scored across their two games so far.

But, will their final Group F encounter with Japan provide goals?

Japan vs Sweden odds from BOYLE SPORTS

  • Japan WIN - 1/1
  • Draw - 11/4
  • Sweden WIN - 16/5

Japan vs Sweden predictions

Japan have been many spectators' surprise package this tournament but seasoned watchers know this is a team that could go deep in the competition.

The squad is made up of very technical, very well-drilled players, many of whom are at top European clubs across the major leagues.

Sweden, on the other hand, limped into the World Cup via the Nations League back-door and subsequent play-offs. Tunisia put up little fight in their opener but the Swedes were simply outclassed by the Netherlands in game two.

Japan's result against the Dutch - a 2-2 draw - was a well-earned, hard-fought point. On that basis, it's easy to see why Japan are favourites for this one.

Sweden, of course, do possess individual star quality that Japan do not. Alexander Isak and Viktor Gyokeres are capable of changing a game on their own so writing them off before a ball is kicked would be unwise.

Sweden need a point to effectively guarantee their place in the knockouts, so don't expect them to go for it in an attacking sense. That said, beating Japan will ensure they leapfrog the Samurai Blue, which would be preferable, so keeping things tight and remaining in the game will be...the name of the game.

Japan, though, still have the chance to top the group and set up a favourable Round of 32 tie.

  • Prediction: Japan 2-1 Sweden
