Manchester United flop Erik ten Hag has suffered his second sacking in under a year.

The former Red Devils boss was relieved of duties midway through last season, despite winning an FA Cup in 2024 and being backed both on and off the field, as Ruud van Nistelrooy arrived as his assistant and the likes of Matthijs De Ligt, Leny Yoro and Manuel Ugarte signed to strengthen the squad.

Now, lightning has struck twice for Ten Hag, who has left Bayer Leverkusen after just two games.

Die Schwarzroten have endured a torrid summer in which Jeremie Frimpong, Jonathan Tah, Florian Wirtz, Granit Xhaka, Lukas Hradecky and Amine Adli have all left the club, with Piero Hincapie expected to join today.

Preseason has been mixed for the club, too, with a 5-1 defeat to Flamengo's under-20s raising alarm bells, with Xabi Alonso's former Invincibles failing to win their first two games of the Ten Hag era.

Now, Sky Germany and Fabrizio Romano have both dropped the bombshell that the Dutchman has been sensationally sacked.

Ten Hag arrived at Manchester United in 2022 with an excellent reputation from his time in the Netherlands, having guided Ajax to the Champions League semi-finals in 2019 and coached at Bayern Munich during Pep Guardiola's tenure at the club.

The 55-year-old guided the Red Devils to the Champions League in his first season in charge and won the League Cup, but faced a steep drop-off in his second term, as United finished eighth, winning the FA Cup to qualify for the Europa League.

Despite being given a vote of confidence by minority owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe before the start of his third campaign at Old Trafford, Ten Hag was given just nine matches in charge before his departure, winning three, drawing two and losing the other four.

Manchester United appear to be in a similar position to this time last year, with Ruben Amorim hanging by a thread in his job, following a dreadful start to the season in which the Red Devils lost to Grimsby Town last week in the League Cup.
