Russian World Cup chief labels doping claims 'made-up news'

Alexey Sorokin, the chief executive of the local organising committee for Russia 2018, has described allegations made by the Mail on Sunday that the country's national football team were involved in a doping programme as "bizarre" and "absolutely made-up news".

A report published by the British newspaper claimed Russia's entire 23-man squad for the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, along with 11 other footballers, were "people of interest" to officials investigating state-sponsored doping in the nation that will host the next edition of FIFA's flagship tournament.
