Arsenal vs Newcastle United: Premier League preview
Arsenal's advantage has withered away but there are five matches to go and that's a lot of football when two teams are level on goal difference.
Man City claimed a significant psychological victory by beating the Gunners last Sunday but the inevitable act of overtaking them in the table in midweek changes the picture again.
Arteta's Arsenal wouldn't be the first team to get a counter-intuitive lift from the relief of no longer being chased. How they respond at the first time of asking will go a long way towards deciding whether they can harness any such boost.
If they can drag a positive out of the negative, Arsenal have enough matches left to hit back. The first is not a tap-in, but Newcastle aren't much minded to put up a fight against anyone at the moment.

Eddie Howe is starting to look like a manager who'll be in charge somewhere else come August. Out of the running at home and in Europe, Newcastle have lost their way.
They won their first two Premier League matches of 2026 but it's been a steady slide since then for Newcastle, who have lost eight and won three of their last 11 league matches.
Back-to-back wins against Manchester United and Chelsea might be interpreted optimistically in the right circumstances, but when a team is otherwise in that sort of form, when objectives are tumbling, you'd forgive supporters for finding those two results in particular rather frustrating.
Arsenal fans might not like being reminded of them either.

FourFourTwo's prediction
Arsenal 3-0 Newcastle United
The Gunners aren't prone to playing without psychological shackles but they can benefit, at least for one game, from being caught.
