After wins in their respective opening World Cup 2026 Group D games, the USA and Australia are both battling it out for top spot.

This one could be fireworks – almost literally after last year's spicy 'friendly' – as the Socceroos attempt to stifle the Stars and Stripes, with FourFourTwo providing all the details on how you can watch the game.

USA vs Australia: key information

Mauricio Pochettino's men made a flying start to their finals campaign with a big 4-1 win over Paraguay in Los Angeles.

Former former Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun, who scored twice, was the star of the show, with skipper Christian Pulisic also impressing before a worrisome calf problem meant his substitution at the interval.

Australia also flew out of the traps with an upset win over Turkey, as 20-year-old Nestory Irankunda became his country's youngest-ever World Cup goalscorer, meaning this contest could go a long way to deciding who finishes top of the group. The winner guarantees progress.

USA vs Australia: World Cup 2026 Preview

Seattle is the venue for the USMNT's second World Cup 2026 group game, with excitement high after a number of impressive facets against Paraguay.

Balogun's brace made him just the second player in the nation's history to score more than once in a World Cup game, a feat that had been a long time coming. Bert Patenaude in 1930. Thanks for asking.

Pochettino is likely to name an unchanged starting XI following their big win last time out, though there are slight concerns over Pulisic's fitness.

Taken off at half-time after picking up a knock, there have been some alleviating of those fears, though. Poch and midfielder Tyler Adams having both stated the forward will be ready to face the Socceroos.

Up against a Turkey side many had tipped to be dark horses, Australia secured a spirited 2-0 victory thanks to goals in either half from Nestory Irankunda and Connor Metcalfe.

A sturdy defensive performance was epitomised by the heroics of goalkeeper Patrick Beach, who made a huge eight stops in his competitive debut for the national side.

Tony Popovic's side are likely to be under pressure once again in this clash with the Stars and Stripes, who have managed to emerge as victors in each of their last two clashes with Australia, including a 2-1 triumph in October 2025 that featured plenty of animosity between both sets of players.
