With 90 minutes of football left to play, the Dutch are two points clear in the automatic qualification spot, but Turkey and Norway are both lurking two points behind them.
The Norwegians slipped up with a 0-0 draw against Latvia last time out, but they know that victory in Rotterdam would propel them above Louis van Gaal’s side.
Should that happen and second-placed Turkey beat Montenegro, the Netherlands would fail to qualify for a second successive World Cup.
However, the hosts are still in pole position, despite throwing away a two-goal lead in the final eight minutes to draw 2-2 away to Montenegro on Saturday.
A big blow for Norway is the absence of injured star striker Erling Haaland, while the Dutch are without Stefan de Vrij after he picked up a knock in the last game.
Both sides are on strong runs of form; the Netherlands had won four in a row before their draw in Podgorica, while Norway are unbeaten in their last six outings.
The last time these two sides met in September, it ended in a 1-1 draw as a Davy Klaasen goal cancelled out Haaland’s opener.
