FA Cup semi-finals: preview

The FA Cup reaches the semi-final stage this weekend, with Wembley now firmly in sight for the four remaining sides.

Liverpool host Brighton in a semi-final that presents a huge opportunity for both sides, with a first-ever trip to Wembley for both on the line.

Brighton, currently sixth in the Women’s Super League, are chasing history, while Liverpool, sitting 11th, will look to reach their first final since finishing as runners-up twice in the mid-1990s.

The other semi-final sees holders Chelsea take on newly crowned WSL champions Manchester City. Chelsea have dominated this competition in recent years, reaching four of the last five finals, but City will be full of confidence after securing the league title and will be keen to add the FA Cup to their trophy haul.

It could be a second trophy for Chelsea too, following their League Cup victory over Manchester United in March.

With recent history between the sides, including City’s final defeat to Chelsea in 2022, there is plenty at stake in this tie, with the winner set to head into the final as favourites.
