Cannavaro out for up to three weeks

ROME - Italy captain Fabio Cannavaro is set to miss Juventus's Champions League visit to Bayern Munich on September 30 because of a thigh muscle injury which will sideline him for up to three weeks.

The centre back suffered the injury during Juve's Group A opener against Girondins Bordeaux on Tuesday which ended 1-1.

"A period out of 15 to 20 days is planned during which there will be physiotherapy and a gradual return to fitness," said a statement on the Serie A club's website.

Midfielders Tiago and Felipe Melo also suffered knocks against Bordeaux and will be unavailable on Saturday when Juventus seek to continue their perfect start in Serie A by beating Livorno at home for their fourth consecutive victory.

Brazilian playmaker Diego will be out for a week with a hamstring injury and captain Alessandro Del Piero is battling to recover from a thigh problem.
