Bischoff move backfires on Gunners

Central midfielder Amaury Bischoff heads a list of eight Arsenal youngsters released by the North London club on Tuesday.

The 22-year-old arrived from Werder Bremen last summer having made more than 60 appearances for the German outfit's B team, with Gunners' boss Arsene Wenger admitting at the time that he was taking a 'gamble on talent' following the youngster's injury record.

And, unfortunately for the Frenchman, his gamble has backfired, with Bischoff - a Portugal U21 international - making just one league, one FA Cup and two League Cup appearances for the club in 2008/09.

Also departing the Emirates Stadium are Rui Fonte, Abu Ogogo, James Dunne, Paul Rodgers, Anton Blackwood, Rene Steer and Vincent Van Den Berg.

Ogogo has already joined League 2 side Dagenham and Redbridge.
