PARIS - Girondins Bordeaux battled to a 3-2 victory at Ligue 1 strugglers Le Mans to reach the League Cup quarter-finals on Tuesday.
Czech midfielder Jaroslav Plasil grabbed the winner as the champions and Ligue 1 leaders extended their unbeaten run to 14 games in all competitions.
Bordeaux - chasing success on four fronts in the Champions League, Ligue 1, French League Cup and French Cup - will face second division Sedan in the last eight next week.
Bordeaux fell behind after just five minutes of the rescheduled last 16 tie when Anthony Le Tallec side-stepped two defenders to score for the home side.
However, the visitors then took control with goals by Yoan Gouffran and France playmaker Yoann Gourcuff in the 14th and 36th minutes.
Le Mans levelled two minutes later through Joao Paulo Andrade but Bordeaux sealed victory when Plasil netted from close range five minutes into the second half after a Marouane Chamakh centre.
Le Mans had captain Joao Paulo sent off in stoppage time for a foul on Gourcuff.
"In such conditions, it was not easy and nearly impossible for both teams to play well. It was cold and the pitch was pretty bad," Bordeaux coach Laurent Blanc told France 4 television.comments
