Southampton future back in doubt

The future of 1976 FA Cup winners Southampton was again cast into doubt when a consortium backed by former player Matthew Le Tissier pulled out of a potential purchase of the club on Tuesday.

The Pinnacle consortium had on May 29 entered into an exclusivity agreement with the joint administrators of Southampton Leisure Holdings Plc, the holding company of the south coast club who have dropped into the third tier of English football.

"It is with great regret and frustration ... that I and in turn those behind the Pinnacle consortium have decided to withdraw our interest in purchasing Southampton football club," Le Tissier said in a statement to Sky Sports.
